TUESDAY was a historic day for Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn, a day that will live long in the memory of all the children and the staff.
Three members of the Irish Defence Forces, Ceannfoirt Peadar Ó Catháin, Gunnadóir Dáithí Breathnach agus Ceannaire Marcus Ó Dulaing visited the school as part of the ‘The National Flag for Primary Schools Initiative 2016 ‘, an initiative that involves the presentation of the Tricolour and the Proclamation of the Republic as part of a year long celebration of the 1916 Easter Rising.
The children, excellently behaved and excited about the event, gathered in halla na Gaelscoile for this much anticipated visit. The members of the Irish Defence Forces were welcomed with a beautiful rendition of Oró Sé Do.

Bheatha Bhaile, an interesting account from two senior pupils of Ruairi Mac Easmainn after whom Gaelscoil Mhic Easmainn is named, after which the choir and sixth class pupil Saoirse Ní Mhaoldomhnaigh performed Lonely Banna Strand.
Ceannfoirt Peadar Ó Catháin read aloud the Proclamation of the Republic of Ireland, just as Padraig Pearse had done on the steps of the General Post Office on Easter Monday morning 1916.
Commodant Peadar was ably assisted by Sorcha Ní Luasaigh from Rang 6, who both spoke proudly and eloquently as they recited the most famous and important document of Irish history.
The members of the Defence Force gave us the background information on the symbolism of the Tricolour and the etiquette attached to its dispay
The Tricolour and the Proclamation were then presented to the school’s youngest pupil Lúcas Ó Croinín and the school’s oldest pupil Lúcás Ó Ceallacháin.
The school now looks forward to the dedicated Proclamation Day on March 15th when the school’s own Proclamation reflecting the hopes and aspirations of the pupils generation will be unveiled and the Irish flag will be raised in the school grounds.
