PERFORMANCES that form part of the 2022 Féile na Bealtaine programme are among over 90 events supported by the Local Live Performance Programming Scheme 3 in Kerry.

Féile na Beataine has become a key moment in Dingle’s festival calendar. It invites performers and visitors from around the world to join in welcoming the light of summer.

Traditional performances have been supported by the scheme as well as new forms of creative experiences such as the ‘Pagan Rave’.

The Pagan rave sees costumed figures, based on those of traditional Irish and European folk theatre and festivals, welcome the traditions of the past with a contemporary edge through a primal experience.

It will begin in The Mart Carpark on Spa Road at 8.30pm Saturday, April 30. This reimaging of traditional folk rituals and ceremonies gradually blurs the line between performer and audience. It is free and welcomes participants and spectators.

The scheme also supports concerts by local Dingle musicians in St James Church as part of the Féile na Bealtaine programme.

Pauline Scanlon & Band will perform twice throughout the day on Sunday, May 1 with Cormac Begley & Friends playing later in the evening. Tickets are available from https://feilenabealtaine.ie/

An Díseart will host a rehearsed reading of a new play, Maeveen, inspired by the reopening of the Kerry babies’ case in 2018.

The play was written by Michael Hilliard Mulcahy and the cast features; Judith Ryan, Áine Moynihan, Colm MacGearailt & David Herlihy. The performance will take place 8pm Sunday 1 May.

“The festival invites contributors to push boundaries, exploring new venues, experiments with form and collaborate, while remaining true to the festival’s deep roots in a rural community.”

The sand on Ventry Beach will be the stage to Cath Fionn Trá – The Battle of Ventry – at 4pm Sunday 1 May.

This free outdoor performance on the beach will feature dancers, musicians; Martin Scharer (percussionist) & Meabh Ní Bheaglaíoch, storytellers & hurlers in a contemporary retelling of the mythological Battle of Ventry in five acts
