YOUNG people recently took part in a three-day programme at Munster Technological University to introduce them to a career in hospitality

‘Get Started’ in Hospitality was delivered by NEWKD YEI service, NEWKD SICAP and MTU Kerry and after the success of last year’s programme and interest from new communities to get started in the Hospitality industry, NEWKD decided the MTU expand target groups this year to include Ukrainians under temporary protection, international protection applicants.

The training event took place from June 6-9 at MTU North campus, in the Hotel, Culinary Arts & Tourism Department.  They had two groups with the addition of a translator on one group.

The group was given a warm welcome and a tour of the building by TJ O’Connor, head of section at the hotel, culinary arts and tourism department at the Munster Technological University’s Kerry campus. They were given informative and practical sessions from the knowledgeable lecturers at MTU.

“The Idea behind the programme is to give participants a taste of what the hospitality industry has to offer in relation to long term careers, while also giving them the confidence and the basic skills required to secure the initial part time job,” said TJ.
