The regional finals of the Our World Irish Aid Awards in Limerick last year.

PRIMARY school pupils from Firies National School, Lyreacrompane N.S and Scoil Naomh Eirc, Kilmoyley, will take part in the Cork and Limerick regional finals of the Our World Irish Aid Awards 2016 on  May 18-19.

The Our World Irish Aid Awards invited pupils across Ireland to create projects, in any medium, about the lives of children in developing countries. The projects highlighted the challenges facing these children and their families and the progress which is being achieved by Ireland and other countries through the global effort to fight poverty.

At the regional final, pupils from Firies National School will exhibit their project, Our World, Our Future and Fair Trade’. Lyreacrompane N.S will exhibit their project, ‘Spread the Word and Work Together’ and Scoil Naomh Eirc will exhibit their project, ‘‘Is Fearr Lámh Oscailte Ná Dorn’.

All schools which were chosen to participate in the Limerick and Cork regional finals will be presented with a plaque recognising their outstanding efforts, and three schools will be selected to compete in the Our World Irish Aid Awards national finals in Dublin Castle on June 14.

The ‘One World, One Future’ theme of the 2016 awards asks pupils to imagine how they would like their world to look in 2030, and to learn about the new United Nations Global Goals for Sustainable Development which seek to address the root causes of poverty and environmental damage worldwide.

Over 1,000 primary schools throughout Ireland have been participating in the Our World Irish Aid Awards in 2016. All entries are assessed on their creativity, understanding of the theme, and their impact.  60 projects that illustrate strengths across these three areas will receive an ‘Our World Irish Aid Awards’ plaque at the regional awards ceremonies in Dublin, Sligo, Limerick and Cork in May.

A selection of the top entries will win a place at the  national finals in Dublin Castle in June, where all twelve finalist schools will be presented with trophies, and the overall ‘Our World Irish Aid Awards’ trophy will be awarded to one outstanding project.
