IT has been announced that Tralee has been named as one of the towns that could apply to achieve recognition as a Gaeltacht Service Town under the Gaeltacht Act 2012.
Gaeltacht Service Towns are defined as those towns situated in or adjacent to Gaeltacht Language Planning Areas and which have a significant role in providing public services, recreational, social and commercial facilities for those areas.
Under the Gaeltacht Act a lead organisation / committee will be selected in each Service Town to undertake putting together a language plan for the town.
A meeting will be held this Thursday, November 30 at 7pm in the Meadowlands Hotel to agree a structure for developing Tralee as a Gaeltacht Service Town.
This meeting is open to all cultural and voluntary committees and organisations, to the education sector, the business sector and the Public Bodies based in the greater Tralee area.
By preparing and implementing a language plan in the town, it is expected that the community, the voluntary sector and the public and private sectors will work together in the town to support the Irish language.
The aim of the language plan will be to enhance the use of the Irish language in the town in so far as it relates to a broad range of activities, including family, community, educational, social, business and public matters.

Ainmníodh Trá Lí mar cheann de na bailte a d’fhéadfadh iarratas a dhéanamh ar aitheantas mar Bhaile Seirbhíse Gaeltachta faoi Acht na Gaeltachta 2012. De réir Acht na Gaeltachta beidh ceanneagraíocht / coiste le roghnú i ngach Baile Seirbhíse le tabhairt faoi phlean teanga a chur le chéile don bhaile.
Beidh cruinniú Déardaoin an 30úSamhain ag 7 pm in Óstán an Meadowlands chun struchtúr a aontú le Trá Lí a fhorbairt mar Bhaile Seirbhíse Gaeltachta.
Beidh an cruinniú oscailte do choistí agus d’eagraíochtaí deonacha agus cultúrtha, don earnáil oideachais, lucht gnó agus do Chomhlachtaí Poiblí lonnaithe i gceantar Thrá Lí.
