The Lighthouse. Swim ……. The 6th round of the series was sponsored by Surf n Sail and involved a quick lap of the lighthouse . A strong southerly wind greeted the swimmers , but soon dropped off by race time. The first event to get underway was the boys and girls of The Kingdom Swimmers being put through their paces by John Edwards. Welcome and well done to all.
Next up was the main event and the conditions were perfect . We had a total of 76 swimmers including 7 from Limerick Masters Open Water. The swim went perfectly with everyone reporting it as the best swim of the season so far. The times were certainly faster than other years, indicating some great competition going on.
James Slade set the fastest time of the night and took Group A honours even after handicaps were applied. Group B was won by James Morris and Group C by improving newcomer Paudie Griffin . Thanks to all of the Kayakers and rescue cover on the night. Most people stayed for the great BBQ and Prizegiving with Graham presenting some fabulous Surf n Sail prizes. Well done and thanks to all.
Swimmer of the year ……..results after round 6 now have James Slade at the top of the table on 16 points with Donal Fitzgibbon still there on 15 points and a dozen or so close behind. With 2 rounds to go, there is going to be some great competition! The awards night will take place on September 27th in The Meadowlands Hotel.
This will be a sit down meal with live music . Awards are for The Swimmer of The Year , First Second and Third in each group and presentation of The Perpetual Trophies . Book your tickets early!
