THERE  were great bouts once again at the Tralee Boxing Club annual tournament at the weekend in Monavalley.

It started off with a couple of exhibitions Michelle and Mary McDonagh were very good for the home club — two young Katie Taylors in the making!

On to the contests and 11 years old  Francie Doherty of Tralee BC  won well against Dylan Vlyee Trojan.

Francie is hopefully a contender for a Munster title in a few weeks time. Mike McCarthy returned to the ring after  some time away against Liam Walsh (SL) it was great to see this lad return with fire in his belly.

Mike McCarthy and coach Donie Jack Griffin.

Mike is a very intelligent boxer and past winner of Monkstown Tournament and this outing  will stand to him big time.

Mike’s twin brother, Patrick, an Irish Champion, stepped into the ring against Patrick O’Brien (Kanturk) .

Patrick boxed well while not his usual explosive self and he knows he will have to up the ante if he is to retain his Munster and Irish titles.

Others to take the ring were Johnathon McCarthy, John O’Brien, Mike Murray, Shane Coffey, Mike Burke, Chris Mongans, Tommy Kenny, Ross Long, Darren Griffin.

All these lads needed this outing and need to up their fitness if they are to progress in the County & Munster Campionships in the coming weeks.

Tralee Boxing would like to thank officals, referees, boxers, coaches and clubs  from Limerick, Kanturk, Bantry, Sliabh Luachra, Trojan, Corpus Cristi and Volunteers for the day.
