Tralee Chess Club were in action in Division 1 and Division 3 of the Munster Chess league last Sunday in Charleville, County Cork.
In the noon encounter, Tralee A drew with Cork CYMS 2 1/2 to 2 1/2. Ukranian Yunis Barudi and Spanard Alfonso Jimenez both won and Tadhg Long of Listowel drew.
In their afternoon match Tralee A beat Limerick A 3/2 to get the win in the best of 5 battles Oleksander Zakcadnyi of Ukraine won and Fabian Walz of Germany drew.Yunis Barudi then won thanks to an audacious rook sacrifice.
The final game saw Alfonso Jimenez ground out a draw in an epic 3 and half hour encounter to see Tralee grab the point.
These results see Tralee A sit in second place in the league with 2 rounds to play. In Division 3 Tralee B lost 4/1 to UCC B team.Johnny Hoare was the sole Tralee winner.
In the afternoon match Tralee B drew 2 1/2 to 2 1/2 with UCC A.Paul Shanahan and Johnny Hoare both recorded victories. Kevin Farnam drew.
However Pat Flaherty of Killorglin and Ayman Osman of Syria lost out in thrilling battles.Tralee B are in 5th position in Division 3.
