THE Tralee Credit Union has opened an account in their branch through which donations can be made to help the Irish Red Cross with their work during the refugee crisis.
“Over the last week we have seen in the media the devastation of thousands of people risking their lives to get into Europe in search of a better life. The distressing image of Aylan Kurdi’s body touched the heart strings of every nation, making us stand up and take action. Most people would like to help but are not sure how to go about it so we hope our fundraising account will encourage people to support this campaign and make a donation,” said Fintan Ryan, CEO of Tralee Credit Union.
All money raised will go to the Irish Red Cross Migration Crisis Appeal. Like many of the non -governmental organisations doing humanitarian aid operations, the Red Cross are operating in the frontline of the migration crisis in Italy, Greece, Hungary, Serbia and Former Yugoslav Republic (FYR) of Macedonia,” he finished.
“The support from local communities around Ireland is not only appreciated but really needed to allow us to assist the hundreds and thousands of people risking their lives to get to Europe. Money raised will go towards helping us give frightened and desperate people shelter, water, food and basic items such as clothes, hygiene kits and nappies as well as medical assistance,” said Louise Rattigan from the Irish Red Cross.
“We also give psycho-social support for those who have endured dangerous journeys often involving the deaths of family members and we assist them in tracing and reconnecting families who have been separated along the way,” she finished.
The Tralee Credit Union branch is calling upon its own members and the general public to help and donate to this fundraising account.
Donations can be made by EFT from your bank /credit union accounts, or by calling in with your cash, cheque or debit card to Tralee Credit Union’s offices in Tralee, Castleisland and Killorglin with the account set to remain open until Monday 30th of November.
