A TRALEE man finds himself poised to win a small fortune if the final piece of this long-term bet comes to fruition over the weekend.
Ballybeggan’s David Culloty placed the the €100 bet close to 10 months ago and is now just under 48 hours away from finding if he will win up to €9,800 with a Kerry victory on Sunday in Croke Park.
David placed the three fold accumulator bet with Paddy Power in which he predicted that, firstly Ardfert would win the Intermediate All Ireland Final, the New England Patriots would the Super Bowl and finally that Kerry would emerge as the All Ireland Champions again this year.
“I made the bet around ten months ago at least. I looked at it for around ten seconds before making it. I looked at the odds and I thought, you know what, this mightn’t be too far off. I thought that this could be the one, this could come off,” said David talking to TraleeToday.ie on Friday afternoon.
“After the Tyrone game though, who I knew were our bit of a ‘bogey team’, I was having a few pints with some of the lads and I thought to myself, I’m only one game off nearly €10,000!” he laughed.
“I’ve never looked forward to a game [the final] as much in my life, not just because of the bet either. Dublin of all people! You can have the craic with them, so the next two days with the bet coming in are going to be very interesting, we’ll be hopping balls with them,” he continued.
“I’ve a few celebrations in mind IF it comes off. I might go on a holiday. I’ll definitely be throwing a bit to charity as well I’d say,” he finished.
We don’t know if David has the gift of foresight or was just feeling lucky on the day he made his bet, but we certainly wish him (and the team!) the best of luck for what could be a great Sunday for all.
