A BALLINORIG man is in with a shot of picking up a brand new car for him and his band.

Gary Keane, who is one half of Irish funk duo ‘White Boys’, is now just one step away from getting his hands on the keys to a brand new, taxed and insured Nissan to drive for a year.

The talented musician formed ‘ White Boys’ with Eoin Walsh, from Bishopstown in Cork having met as sessions players at the Late Late Show.

Their success in selling out shows and in releasing a debut single which peaked at number two in the Irish charts greatly impressed Nissan who developed the Nissan Generation Next ambassador programme to support Ireland’ s new generation of leaders and champions on their journey to success.

1,000 ambitious achievers applied to this year’ s programme and Gary and Eoin’s band entry has resulted in them becoming one of the 20 finalists who have been put through to the voting phase of the programme.

Fans and supporters can cast their vote online up to Tuesday, June 28.

“Every vote counts and I hope that everyone in Kerry and Cork will support myself and Eoin and vote online,” said a delighted Gary Keane.

“Having a brand new Nissan would really help us to get around to rehearsals, gigs and radio shows – and all with a maximum degree of smugness,” said Gary.

“We’ve just released our debut single ‘Stylin’ and we’re in the middle of an Irish radio promo tour. It’s the first of three singles we are releasing this year. It reached number two in the Irish iTunes Charts, which is a big result for a debut independent release,” he said.

Gary and Eoin are renowned for delivering colourful, uptempo RnB, soul and funk. They have played sold out shows at Dublin’ s Olympia Theatre and at The Savoy in Cork and are just about to announce a busy schedule of summer shows.

“We believe in our music, its feel, its colour, its message. We want to create an atmosphere in our live shows that has the capacity to transport people away from the banalities of everyday life. We want people to feel lifted after our show,” he added.

“We plan to build our own headline shows and to secure regular airplay on all national radio stations during 2016. We also want to make more production and writing trips to the US. Long term, the ultimate goal would be to secure a Grammy nomination within the next five years,” he said.

Those interested in voting to support Gary and Eoin or any of the other 20 Nissan Generation Next finalists for 2016, can do so online by visiting www.nissangenerationnext.ie anytime up to Tuesday, June 28.

The top seven vote-getters get to become Nissan Generation Next ambassadors, while the judges at Nissan will select a further three ambassadors for 2016.
