A LOCAL student has just published her first book of poems at the age of just 14.

Abigail Adetunji is a third year student at Mercy Mounthawk and launched the book, ‘Mirror — A Poetry Collection for Those Willing to Reflect’, at O’Mahony’s Bookshop on Saturday.

A number of friends, well-wishers and family members were there to support the teenager from Oakpark who has been an avid reader and writer since she was a young girl.

‘Mirror…’ is described as being delicately crafted through the idiosyncratic experiences of Abigail, who says many of the poems are about nature.

She was encouraged to explore her creativity early as a pupil in CBS Primary and did courses in the Centre For Talented Youth Ireland (CTYI) which nurtured her talent. Her teacher there, Donal Culhane, was also present on Saturday to support her.

“Abigail showed great talent all along. She was quiet and shy and always put out great work,” said Donal.

Abigail’s mom, Abi, said she was very proud of her daughter and thanked everyone for coming to support her. The book, which was self-financed, is available to buy for €10 in O’Mahony’s Bookshop or at Amazon for €11.99 by clicking here.
