Tralee Writer Longlisted For Prestigious Short Story Of The Year Award

A TRALEE-BASED writer has been longlisted for the An Post Irish Book Awards Writing.ie Short Story of the Year 2020.

Barbara Byar is one of 18 writers on the longlist for the prestigious award. Based in Tralee, she released her debut collection, ‘Some Days are Better than Ours’ back in November 2019 and this was longlisted for the 2019 EllipsisZine Flash Collection Competition.

The An Post Irish Book Awards Writing.ie Short Story of the Year had their highest number of entries to date this year and the standard of all the stories was exceptional according to organisers.

Judges Madeleine Keane, Literary editor of the Sunday Independent, Literary Agent Simon Trewin and Bob Johnston from the Gutter Bookshop will be now decide on the short list of authors.

The short list will be announced on October 20, when the stories will be published on www.writing.ie and the public will be invited to vote for their favourite story.

The winning story will then be announced on November 25 at the An Post Irish Book Awards online event. RTE will televise the Awards Show on December 10.
