THE walking efforts of three women on the other side of the world raised over €6,500 for Comfort For Chemo Kerry.

Erin Flanagan from Tralee, Aislinn Dowling from Kilmoyley and Bronagh Shiel from Kilkenny (whose mother Trish hails from Castlegregory) took on the fundraiser in response of Erin’s mother Lorraine receiving treatment for lung cancer in the chemotherapy unit at UHK last year.

The three women are domiciled in Sydney and Erin couldn’t get home to her mother during her illness because of COVID restrictions in Australia.

Erin wanted to do something so she and her friends Aislinn and Bronagh decided to take on a sponsored walk of 300 miles around the Sydney area in 31 days during October.

Their efforts were a huge success and they raised €6,517. Erin and Bronagh are back home for a few weeks so they, along with Lorraine (who is now in good health) and Trish, presented the cheque to Mary Fitzgerald of Comfort For Chemo at The Rose Hotel on Friday.

“It was a fantastic fundraiser by the girls,” said Mary Fitzgerald. “We’re very grateful for their efforts, walking in that heat over in Australia.”
