THIS week, Listowel Race Company launched a video campaign which showcases some of the magic and beauty of the North Kerry landscape in the run up to the Listowel Harvest Racing Festival next month.

It features the historic and storied past of the vibrant town of Listowel and, most importantly, the wonderful, warm welcome and festivities that await all ages as preparations proceed in earnest for the forthcoming Festival from Sunday 22nd to Saturday 28th of September.

The campaign features well known local faces including horse trainer, Eoin McCarthy, publican and writer, Billy Keane, Chairman of Listowel Race Company, David Fitzmaurice, Secretary/Manager Brenda Daly, Head Groundsman Dan O’Connell, Enclosures Manager, John Sheehan, jockey Aoife O’Brien and this year’s judges of the McElligotts Kia Ladies Day Rosanna Davison and Heidi Higgins.

Featuring dramatic footage of the spectacular scenery off Bromore cliffs, horses riding out on Beale Beach and drone footage of Listowel Town, the core message of the campaign is when you come to the Listowel Races it truly is a complete experience as there is so much to do and see in North Kerry by day and by night. (see video below)

The concept for the campaign was developed by Orla Diffily and produced in association with George Doyle and Paudi Cronin of Neustock Media.

It was filmed over approximately 2 weeks from the end of July to early August with the crew utilising every sunny day to full advantage. It has a “movie” cinematic texture so as to make it visually appealing and already has over 100,000 views on social media platforms.

Primary Schools Encouraged To Register For Blue Star Programme

.

WITH just days to go until the new school year begins, Primary School Teachers in Kerry are being called on to register for the Blue Star Programme.

In its 14th year, the award-winning Programme teaches children about the European Union. To date, over 1,200 schools and an estimated 200,000 pupils have completed the Programme, with 17 schools in Kerry participating in the Programme last year.

Schools participating in the Blue Star Programme may receive a visit to the school from a politician or a diplomat. Minister for Education Norma Foley TD visited Abbeydorney National School in Tralee and MEP Seán Kelly visited Kiltallagh National School in Castlemaine.

Continued below…

.

From this week until October 11, 2024, the National Implementation Body, European Movement Ireland invites primary schools across Ireland to register and complete the Blue Star Programme, in particular Gaelscoileanna, island schools and DEIS schools.

Participating classes learn about European history, geography, culture, and the EU institutions in a fun, informative and accessible way that complements the national primary curriculum.

Aspects of the Programme include cross-cultural activities, such as learning basic phrases in other European languages and celebrating European cultural days. Additionally, the Programme encourages pupils to learn about the European elections, in particular the role of MEPs and the differences between the EU Institutions.

Teachers have the flexibility to integrate the Programme into their lesson plans and tailor EU projects to their classes’ aptitude and ability. The Programme is open to all primary school ages, from junior infants to sixth class, and is designed to be run in all school settings across Ireland. Gaelscoileanna can avail of Clár na Réalta Goirme i nGaeilge.

European Movement Ireland (EM Ireland) is the National Implementation Body for the Blue Star Programme.

EM Ireland is an independent not-for-profit, membership organisation dedicated to developing the connection between Ireland and the EU and the Programme is funded by the Department of Foreign Affairs.

Further information about the Programme can be found at www.bluestarprogramme.ie
