BLENNERVILLE National School’s motto ‘ní neart go cur le chéile’ never seemed so appropriate than in the last few weeks as last Monday, March 7, as they welcomed those who collaborated to help make shelves for their new library to the school.

The school had the problem of an empty room in which to develop a library, but no money for furniture or books; but they were thankful for their close friendship with the local GAA club Chairperson, Seamus Murphy, as St Pats Academy stepped in to help.
Seamus is a lecturer at I.T. Tralee and in January, he gave his students a very special project – to make bookshelves for the library.

Those involved in the project were students: Cormac Lawrence, William O’Connor, Chris McKenna, John Fitzgerald and Shane O’Sullivan. They all are studying ‘Advanced Wood Technology and Sustainable Construction’ – a course which emphasises the principles of construction and sustainable construction practices.

A collaboration was formed between Seamus, his students, Terry O’Sullivan, Blennerville NS Principal, while parents Conor Culloo and Joe Costello helped with design and source materials and they were welcomed to the school last Monday so that the pupils could express their thanks.

The library now has hand-crafted shelving and the school plans to purchase books and a Junior Librarian System with funding from a race night they are holding at Tralee Greyhound Stadium on Saturday, April 23, 2016.

All monies raised from this event will go towards much needed school equipment and literacy projects. Tickets cost €10 for adults with children going free and are available at O’Sheas GALA in Blennerville, Rock Street Post Office as well as through the school.
