TWO Kerry games feature in the top ten most watched sporting events of 2014 on RTE with one more just outside according to figures released this week by the national broadcaster.
Kerry’s All-Ireland final win was the third most watched game in the country last year, behind Ireland’s Six Nations decider against France and the World Cup final.
That titanic tussle in Limerick against Mayo gripped the nation ranking it as the 7th most watched ahead of the Dublin v Donegal All-Ireland semi final.
Coming just outside the top ten is the drawn game against Mayo, which had people tuning in en masse to enjoy the exciting final moments when Kerry snatched a draw late on.
In a year of a World Cup and Ireland winning the Six Nations championship, the GAA featured five games inside the top ten, proving that even with the arrival of Sky’s GAA coverage and other distractions, Gaelic games remain a vital part of the national broadcaster’s output.
