MOYDERWELL National school was full of hustle and bustle this week as pupils and teachers alike took part in the school’s active week.
The Department of Education and Skills and Healthy Ireland encourage all schools to organise an Active School Week as part of their annual school calendar.
On Friday, with the weather beginning to feel more summery, parents were invited ‘Walk a mile with a smile’ with the kids. For the walk, the whole school, including the teachers, walked around the town park and back again.
“The kids have had a great week. It doesn’t matter if they’re six years old or 12, Active School Week is the best week of the year here in school,” said PE Coordinator, Caroline Doody.
“The teachers love it as well! Especially at this time of the year when the weather is a bit better,” she said.
Because Friday was Sunflower Day, while making their way around the park, the school raised money for the Hospice Foundation.
As part of the active week, pupils have been doing Zumba and Hip-Hop dance classes along with their annual sports day.
