SEVENTEEN pupils from Moyderwell Primary’s 6th class are at the BT Young Scientists Exhibition in Dublin this week.

They are showcasing their project titled “House of the Future – A Dream or a Reality for all?” today Thursday at the Primary Science Fair at the RDS.

Their project has involved researching some of the ways in which we can build our homes in order to make them more sustainable and to cater for our ever increasingly busy lives. The young innovators designed and made model houses of the future which feature windmills and solar panels to cater for the energy needs of their houses.

In advance of their Dublin trip, pupils were also delighted to participate in two workshops – one with Mr. David O’ Keeffe, Real Estate Agent, who works with White & Co Real Estate Agents in Dubai and another with Mr. David Moriarty – DMA Architects in Tralee.

According to Mr. Pat Neenan, Principal, this will be the 15th time Moyderwell has exhibited at the exhibition.

“We have a long and proud history with the exhibition, in fact one of our past pupils, Eimear Jones, remains the youngest ever winner of the coveted overall prize. Mr. Griffin will lead the team to the RDS this year and we are very proud of the achievements of our 2024 cohort of intrepid young scientists”.

Safira, one of the very excited pupils heading to Dublin said; “ The project was fun and exciting and I am really looking forward to attending the BT Young Scientist Exhibition to present our work”

The pupils travelled to Dublin on Wednesday and are enjoyed a visit to the Natural History Museum, as well as a trip to the Savoy Cinema, before presenting their findings to the public at the BT Young Scientist Exhibition today.
