WHILE many people know legendary singer songwriter Tom Waits sang about dancing with the Rose of Tralee on his song Rain Dogs, an old clip has surfaced from The Late Late Show referring to his visit to the town in February 1981.
The RTE Archives tweeted a link this morning to the awkward interview between the artist and Gay Byrne and towards the end, Tom’s wife, Kathleen Brennan, is interview by the host.
She refers to how wonderful people were to them when they visited Tralee and were shown around by their friends there, Lionel and Dave. She also said Tom did a bit of writing in Ballyseede Castle.

Yes it is Lionel Dorrington who is mentioned here. Had some great nights in Abbey Inn where Tom got up and sang!! Lovely people him and Kathleen!!
