THE new play by Mike O’Halloran opened last night in Abbeydorney to a great response by the audience.

The local Community Centre was the venue for a ‘A Queen’s Speech’ from the pen of the man who brought you the acclaimed ‘September 82.

It was described as a play with “a brilliant storyline, plenty of laughs with a parallel emotional story and a lovely ending,” by a reviewer on Facebook.

Taking place in a pub which is also a barbershop, it’s a blend of comedy and drama set in the summer of 2011 when Ireland was lifted from the gloom of recession by the promise of a State visit by Queen Elizabeth II.

The play continues tonight (Saturday) and tomorrow in Abbeydorney at 8pm, but if you can’t make it, the production will come to Siamsa Tire in Tralee on November 27/28.

Tickets available at €10 at the door or from Abbeydorney Post Office.
