MINOR FOOTBALL: A lovely evening was enjoyed in the Austin Stacks Club last Friday night (Nov 10th) to celebrate the achievements of our Minor Team of 2017.

The evening opened with an address by Club Chairman, Liam Lynch, who outlined the Club’s commitment to the team going forward.

He discussed the Coaching Committee’s recommendations in terms of coaching, strength & conditioning and the opportunities for the players to find local employment through the Clubs Job Match programme which to date had successfully found employment for 65 members.

We were delighted to be joined by special guest Mikey Sheehy who presented  the 30 panel members with their 2017 Co. League Div 1 & Town League Winners medals.

Wayne Quillinan thanked his team of Jonathan Conway, Eoin Colgan, Kevin O’Callaghan and John O’Sullivan for all their help during the year.

He thanked the players collectively whom he said had put in a massive effort for the last 2 years and were a credit to both their parents and the club.

Every player was acknowledged and thanked individually before being invited to come forward to receive their  medals.

Player of the Year was awarded to Gearóid Fitzgearld – his stats make for remarkable reading – during the 2017 season he scored: 14 goals and 17 points (scoring 13 goals and 14 points from play) a worthy winner indeed.

With formal proceedings completed everyone retired to the club bar where Karl O’Brien provided the musical entertainment for the rest of the night.

It was lovely to see all the players remain in the club and enjoy their evening with family and friends with many finding their singing voices as the night went on.  Well done again boys on a wonderful year – Rockies Abú.

Our thanks to Elma Nix for the above Report.
