SENIOR FOOTBALL: Dr. Crokes 0-18: Austin Stacks 1-10.

We opened the scoring with a point from Darragh O’Brien in the first minute. David Mannix, with points in the third and fifth minutes had us three ahead.

By the 11th minute Crokes had put over six unanswered points but points by the 13th minute from Shane O’Callaghan and Shane Guthrie reduced their lead to just one. Two more points by Crokes saw then three ahead again.

But in the 19th minute the sides were level again when David Mannix pounced on a defensive error by the opposition to score what turned out to be the only goal of the game.

Between then and half time both sides added two more points – ours coming from Shane O’Callaghan after being put through by Michael O’Donnell and from a David Mannix free. This left the sides still level at half time 0-10 to 1-7.

Half way through the second half Crokes had put over six more points before David Mannix, from a free, had our first point of this half in the 48th minute. Between then and full time they added three more to just two for us – Greg Horan and David Mannix on target.

It was good to see Ciarán O’Reilly, last year’s Kerry Minor, making his Senior debut.

Team: David Hennessy, Pa McCarthy, Conor Jordan, Ronan Shanahan Denis McElligott, Greg Horan (0-1), Jack O’Shea, Shane Guthrie (Capt) (0-1), Michael O’Donnell, Shane O’Callaghan (0-2), Darragh O’Brien (0-1), Shane Carroll, David Mannix (1-5 – three frees), Kieran Donaghy, Ferdia O’Brien.

Subs used: Sean Ryan (40m), Ciarán O’Reilly (49m), Denis Costello (55m).

Our thanks to Tim Slattery for the above report.

It’s back now to Co. League duty on this coming weekend. Please note our game, at home to Ballymac, has been moved to Sunday afternoon (22nd April) at 2pm.

B FOOTBALL: Our B team, who along with Scartaglin share top spot on the Co. League table with full points from their two wins in the opening two rounds, are due to travel to Asdee on next Sunday afternoon (22nd April) for a 2pm start in round 3 of the Co. League (a head on class with our Seniors who are in Connolly Park at the same time).

HURLING: Austin Stacks 0-5; Causeway 4-16

Our Hurlers got their season underway in Connolly Park on Friday evening (13th April) with the visit of Causeway for the first game in the North Kerry Intermediate League. With very little work done so far by our lads it was no surprise that the visitors, on the day, were more prepared. They led by 2-6 to 0-1 at half time and in the second half they added a further 2-10 while we scored four more points. All our five scores were from long-ranged efforts and were brilliantly executed. Colm Ó Giollagain put over three, two from frees, with the other two coming from play by Ronan Gilsenan.

It was good to see Daniel McCarthy making his Club debut and also good to see both Thomas Meehan and Gearóid McCann back in the fray again after a few years away – Thomas’s last game was in October 2014, while Gearóid was even longer away, his last Hurling game in May 2012.

Team: Danny McGuire, Kevin O’Leary, Andrew Morrissey, Tadhg Meehan, Ciarán Breen, Paul Daly, Johnny Downey, Cillian O’Riordan, Gearóid McCann, Jason Conway, Ronan Gilsenan (0-2), Thomas Meehan, Colm Ó Giollagáin (0-3 – 2  frees), John Connelly, Daniel McCarthy.

We are now due to play St. Brendans in the next round of the competition on next Friday evening (20th April) at 7pm. The game, which was originally fixed for Ardfert, will now take place in Connolly Park. Then the final game in the series will be the postponed game away to Ballyheigue, a date for which has yet to be refixed.

MINOR FOOTBALL: Austin Stacks 2-11: Kerins O’Rahillys 2-4.

With Team Manager, Darragh Long and his colleagues using their extended panel – six players who didn’t start in the Cordal game last week were on the first fifteen on this occasion – we put on another very good display in this Town League game played in Connolly Park on this Tuesday evening (10th April). And those six players performed very well together with the other nine players who started and the four subs who were used during the second half. We led by 1-7 to 0-1 after 18 minutes. Conor Myers scored 1-1 and the other six points came from six different players, including two defenders (Dylan Casey and Jack McGrath) and our two centre-field men (Michael O’Gara and David Couchman). The remaining two points came from Seán Carmody and Dean Scanlon.  Rahillys added 1-1 before the break which left us ahead by five at the interval (1-7 to 1-2).

We kept the opposition to 1-2 also in the second half, while we added a further 1-4 during this period. Our goal came from Sean Carmody, to add to the one he scored in Cordal last week, and two of our points came from Daniel O’Rourke with Joe Looby and Dylan Casey adding the other two.

It was great to see both Daniel Draghici and Kaito Ikeuchi making their Minor debuts. Kaito is a native of Japan and both looked impressive.

Team: Ben Quilter, James Quigley, Dylan Casey (0-2), David Burke, Jack McGrath (0-1), Dara Barry Walsh, Eoghan Carroll, Michael O’Gara (0-1), David Couchman (0-1), Seán Carmody (1-1), Joe Looby (0-1), Tom O’Farrell, Dean Scanlon (0-1), Conor Myers (1-1), Criag Teahan.

Subs used: Daniel O’Rourke (32m) (0-2), Daniel Draghici (35m), Charlie Curran (41m), Kaito Ikeuchi (46m).

In the 5th and final round of the Co. League we are due to travel to Killarney on next Friday evening (20th April) to play Dr. Crokes. Throw-in at 6.15pm.
