Austin Stacks GAA Club News

SENIOR FOOTBALL: The four knock-out Co. Championship quarter finals are now going ahead this week-end involving two double headers. We get the ball rolling in Austin Stacks Park on Saturday evening (8th Oct) when we play Feale Rangers at 5.30 followed by the Dr. Crokes .v. Dingle game at 7.30pm. Then on Sunday in Fitzgerald Stadium it will be Mid Kerry .v. Templenoe at 1pm followed by East Kerry .v. Kenmare Shamrocks at 2.45. As usual all games will be ‘result on the day’.

This will be the 16th meeting between ourselves and Rangers in Co. Championship games since the first one away back in 1956. In the 15 encounters to date Rangers just have the upper hand on us with eight wins to our seven, with all their wins coming in the last century and four of our wins coming in this century.

B FOOTBALL: Kerins O’Rahillys 4-8; Austin Stacks 0-6.

The old cliché that goals win Matches proved true once more in this Molyneaux Shield Final, played in Blennerville on last Saturday evening  (1st Oct) when a strong O’Rahillys side had a good win in this inaugural competition.

We were well in this game right during the first half, trailing by just two points (0-6 to 0-4) as the game approached half time. But the last score of the half – a Rahillys goal – set the Strand Road boys up for what turned out to be a comfortable win in the end. They led by 1-6 to 0-4 at half time – our four points coming from three well converted frees by Ciarán O’Reilly and one from play by team captain, Paul Barrett.

Rahillys went on to dominate the second half adding a further three goals and two points to just two points for us – Ciarán again on target from a free and one from play by Joey Kinsella.

Team: Brian Horgan, Shane Kelliher, Shane Walsh, John Murphy, Billy Stack, Dean Rusk, Joe Reidy, Paul Barrett (Capt) (0-1), Rory Forbes, Evan Foley, Ciarán O’Reilly (0-4 – frees), Andrew Morrissey, Daniel O’Rourke, Joey Kinsella (0-1), Jimmy Charles.

Subs used: Dean Scanlon (ht), Tom McLoughlin (36m).
