CLOTHES RECYCLING: Our Club Fundraising Clothes Recycling collection, which took place last Saturday, was a great success. Thanks to everyone who supported the event.

MINOR FOOTBALL: Laune Rangers 2-10 (16); Austin Stacks 3-9 (18).

Our round 2 Co. League game, played in a dry, sunny Killorglin on last Saturday (25th Feb) saw both sides dominating at periods before we came away with a well-deserved two points victory. It took both sides some time to come to grips with a strong swirling breeze before the home side opened the scoring after eleven minutes. Before that they could have goaled but for a point-blank save by Steven Conway. We responded a minute later with a well-taken Ryan O’Driscoll goal followed by a second point from a free by Rangers. Two brilliant points from play by Daniel Kirby extended our lead to three points after 24 minutes. But Rangers then dominated the closing minutes of the half scoring four unanswered points (two from play) to leave them ahead by a point at half time (0-6 to 1-2).

They extended that lead to four points eight minutes into the second half when they added a goal and a point to one for us from  Ryan O’Driscoll. Ryan was then very much involved during an eleven minute period between the 40th and 51st minute when we scored two goals and five points without reply – Ryan contributing  a goal and three points (from three 45s) and Ronan Carroll with a goal and a points – his point also from a forty five. Conor Bastible was the scorer of our other point during this period. Both sides then scored a point each during the next three minutes – ours by Oliver Lata. That was to be our last score of the game while Rangers went on to score a goal and two points to make it a shaky closing minutes for us. But our lads did hold on for that well-deserved two points win.

Team:  Steven Conway, James Fisher, Donnacha Horgan, Ciarán Kavanagh, Seán Heaslip, Seán Óg Brosnan, Alex Tuohy, Fionán Ryan, Daniel Kirby (Capt) (0-2), Calvin Casey, Ronan Carroll (1-1 – one 45), Thomas Deregee, Ryan O’Driscoll (2-4 – three frees), Oliver Lata (0-1), Cormac Bastible (0-1).
