PEIL FAOI 6/8: (i) Football on Sunday morning as usual at 11am. Coaching was called off last Sunday due to the inclemency of atmospheric conditions…but what a great turnout we still had! PEIL FAOI 10: (i) Despite the frequent showers last Sunday morning, it was heartening to see such a great turnout – hardy young Rockmen, gan aon agó!! (ii) Don’t forget Thursday’s football i gCathair Sailí! (iii) Preparations continue for our August bank holiday trip to Dublin….details will be outlined in the coming days. Dubs, watch out…The Rock is on the way!

PEIL FAOI 12: Our Under 12 boys will train on Tuesday and on Thursday from 5.30pm to 6.45pm. We look forward to the commencement of the Central League.

PEIL FAOI 13: Our Under 13 boys took on Ballymac in Connolly Park on Sunday last in the first round of the Town League (Roinn 1). Score- AdeS: 5-13; Ballymac: 1-4.

PEIL FAOI 14: (i) The U14A lads, led from the front by captain Cian Purcell (1-2), played Laune Rangers in Killorglin on Monday 4th July and came back from 0-14 down to win by 0-3. Scór deiridh: 6-9 to 4-12.

Our full forward, Mervyn Shalemba, scored 3-2 from play in the second half and Owen Healy bagged 2-0 in the second half. We witnessed a great comeback and near perfect performance from our entire team.

And we include our subs, Connor Kavanagh and Evan Foley, Jordan Kissane, who gave an impressive performance after his return from his laethanta saoire, and a solid A team debut from Brian McElligott.

This gutsy performance in grinding out the win has placed us back on track after disappointing results in our first two matches. (ii) Our U14A home game on the 7th v Cromane/Glenbeigh-Glencar resulted in a narrow win…3-10 to 4-6….v the league leaders.

This was an impressive performance from an understrength Rock team. Cian Purcell led the way with 3-6 and an impressive exhibition from Shane Bastible, who ranged from full–forward, to centre forward and to lár na páirce; Armin Heinrich and Adam Curran put in a huge work rate and kept going to the end; Joe Reidy contributed really well on his A Team debut.

An outstanding performance from Ben Quilter, sa chúl, steadied the ship as the visitors staged a powerful comeback, scoring a goal in extra time to bring the scores level. However, Cian Purcell scored a final great point in the 62nd minute!

What an exciting finish and fine victory! Well done, Rockmen! (iii) Roinn 1…we defeated Kilgarvan…3-10 to 4-6…last Friday (8th). Ár gcéad 15: Ben Quilter; Daniel Breen, Luke Chester, Jordan Kissane; Brian McElligott, Adam Curran, Ruairí Ó Conaill; Mervyn Shalemba; Armin Heinrich, Conor Goran; Owen Healy, Liam Tóibín; Greg Scanlon, Shane Bastible, Cian Purcell. (iv) Our U14 Division 1 team played way v Na Gaeil (7pm) on Monday last (11th). (v) Our U14 Division 3 lads were at home (Páirc na mBan Rialta) v Na hÓ Céirín-Ó Raithilligh (7.30pm) on Tuesday last (12th). (vi) The AdeS B game v Milltown/Castlemaine is to be refixed.

IOMÁNAÍOCHT FAOI 14: Best wishes to Lúcás Chester, enjoying his laethanta saoire sa Ghaeltacht, who has been chosen as part of the Kerry U14 Hurling training group. Stacach go smior is ea é, cé go bhfuil fuil ghorm na nDéise ann, chomh maith! The original Roanmore Rockite!

PEIL FAOI 16: (i) The U16s are back in action after their Junior Cert break. Round 1 of the County League, v Kilgarvan/Tousist, was played last Friday in a dark and damp Connolly Park. The visitors had a number of South Kerry development squad players on board and they gave us a tough battle!

Some of the boys had already crossed swords in the Munster Final with the North Kerry lads coming out on top, ní nach ionadh, having five Rockites on the team, viz, Donagh Mac Mathúna, Gearóid Mac Gearailt, Mícheál Ó Slatara, Dylan Ó Cathasaigh agus Gearóid Ó Síocháin. Agus cé hé an North Kerry Development Coach?

Our own Wayne Quillinan. We started brightly and could have goaled in the first minute but for a biteen of rustiness! Our midfields, Dylan Ó Cathasaigh and Gearóid Fitz, were making strong runs down the middle, though some tough tackling from the visitors kept us on our toes! After a number of fouls on Dylan we were awarded a penalty which Fitzy smashed to the net.

Mike Slatz also goaled but the boys from Healy-Rae country pulled one back before half-time…2-12 v 1-4 in our favour! Almost on the restart, Kilgarvan/Tousist were awarded a penalty which surprised everyone, including the forward who won it!

Dara Barry-Walsh, brilliantly deputising for the injured David Oba, was sent the wrong way…cúl! That was as close as the visitors came to us as our lads powered on, scoring 5-8 to 1-2 in the second period. A black card for another foul on Dylan all but finished the game and, with Donagh McMahon, James Quigley, David Burke, Eoghan Carroll and Padraic Linnane in fine form in defence, a southern comeback was never on the cards! Cúl ón gCathasach, two more from the boot of Slatz and one each from David Couchman and Dean Scanlon (and that after lovely passing moves involving Gearóid Fitz, Daniel Ó Ruairc and Slatz), as well as some lovely point kicking from play and frees by Gearóid Ó Síocháin, gave us our first two points of the league campaign.

Sásúil go maith! Final score- AdeS: 7-20: Kilgarvan/Tousist: 2-6. (ii) The B boys began their campaign away to Castlegregory on Wednesday (7pm). (iii) Minus four or five starters, due to injury, we managed to remain unbeaten in the U16 Central League and we reached the semi-final i Mí Aibreáin, which meant a home tie v An Daingean whom we had beaten comprehensively in the group game.

That had been a month earlier and An Daingean had come with a different game plan! With time running out in the game and The Rock 0-8 down, the lads somehow pulled off one of the greatest comebacks that will ever be seen in Connolly Park! 0-3 in the final six minutes, buíochas le Gearóid Ó Síocháin and Donagh Mac Mathúna! We won by 0-1 and set up a rematch with Desmonds and a repeat of that (by now viral!) ‘Crusher’ Casey shoulder!

With most of the ‘walking wounded’ now back in action, we won the final with a biteen to spare. However, we give credit to Desmonds who pushed us all the way in front of a partisan crowd.

Captain Gearóid Sheehan accepted our first piece of silverware (and hopefully not our last) of the year. Every player did his bit in the Central League and many fringe players gained valuable experience at a higher level and that will stand to them in the County League and beyond. Credit also must go to the multi-talented Garry Clifford who filled the boots of the D-Man in goals and saved not one but two penalties in one game!

CAMPA PEILE i gCONNOLLY PARK: Our own club Football Camp will be held from August 2nd to August 5th.
