MANY Tralee people who enjoy golfing in Ballybunion will see some big changes to the greens by this time next year.

Almost 300 members attending a Special General Meeting at Ballybunion Golf Club on Thursday night voted on a proposal by the club’s Management Committee to strip all eighteen greens on the famous old course of their Poa weed grass and re-sod them with Fescue turf.

The work will be carried out between October of this year and January of 2016 and the greens would then re-open for play in the Spring with true links green surfaces.

The council also approved a complete re-design of the seventh green on the old course (by designer Graeme Webster) and the total combined cost of both jobs is estimated to be in the region of €1.5m.
