KERRY golfers are being asked to donate their golf round this Sunday, October 1 in aid of Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind, by entering a unique online multi-course competition.

Entry requires a donation of €10 with 90 percent going to Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind and there are prizes for the top three scorers.

The competition is open to Kerry golfers on Kerry courses only and is the brainchild of TopDog Golfer headed up by Kerry resident, Peter O’Brien.

TopDog Golfer is a new multi-course platform that facilitates the creation of competitions that are played across multiple golf courses on the same day, giving golfers the opportunity to compete against each other while playing on their home course anywhere in the country.

It was developed in on the MTU Kerry Campus in Tralee through their New Frontiers programme and was successful in securing funding from Enterprise Ireland through their Competitive Startup Fund resulting in Enterprise Ireland coming onboard as shareholders.

TopDog Golfer CEO and Director Peter O’Brien — who has lived in Kerry for over 30 years — and his team have trialled the concept over the last couple of years, running a handful of competitions across the country.

In layman’s terms, if you and a friend are members of different golf clubs, you both can play in your respective club competitions on the day while competing against each other in TopDog Golfer’s multi-course competition.

“With 90 percent of the donation going to Irish Guide Dogs for the Blind it’s a great way to make a difference in the lives of those who are vision impaired and the families of children with autism,” Peter explains.

“You can play in your own club competition on Sunday, and you can use that round to enter. In essence, you are using the one round to enter two competitions, both club and multi-course. We have a live leaderboard which is great fun as friends playing across the county can see in real time how they are doing in their round against each other. There will be prizes for the top three scores.”

“In order to sign up and enter, one must download the TopDog Golfer app from the App stores or click on the QR code on the poster (below), then register and enter. All financial information and entry fees are handled by Stripe ensuring absolute safety and transparency”.
