Randle Bros Junior B County Championship   Round 2

Ballymacelligott v Annascaul/Castlegregory

On what was another beautiful evening and in front of a big support for both sides, the scene was set for a classic. There was nothing between these two sides in the Junior C in 2020 and this occasion proved to be the same, as an understrength Ballymacelligott side had to go deep into their reserves to produce a well-deserved 3-11 to 2-4 victory.

Ballymacelligott were first to open the scoring with a point from Rachel Creedon in the very first minute, followed three minutes later with another from Kate Collins. A/C broke downfield from a fumbled kickout and scored a nice point, but Ballymacelligott responded with another point by Eve Creedon.

Then the game stepped up in pace with three well worked goals, one a piece, first A/C, then in straight reply Roisin Rahilly netted. Two minutes later after a mistake in the Ballymac defence, A/C struck again for another goal, leaving the scores after 15 minutes, Ballymac 1-3 A/C 2-1.

Kate Collins notched another point to level the game and Roisin Rahilly pointed from a free to put the Ballymac ladies back in front. 3 minutes from the short whistle A/C put over another point to leave the score level at Half Time.

The second half started as the first ended with tit for tat scores, Roisin Rahilly scored from another free and Annascaul/Castlegregory replied with a free. Then disaster struck for Ballymac as Rachel Griffin was shown a yellow card, with 17 minutes left to play and A/C put over another point to go into the lead. However, the yellow card only seems to inspire the Ballymac ladies and A/C never scored again.

Ellie McElliogott scored a delightful point to level and then the blue and gold went into overdrive as Kate Collins scored a goal and a point inside a minute as A/C kickout strategy fell apart. Roisin Rahilly put over two points from frees, as Ballymac went back to their full complement and A/C had had one of their ladies yellow carded. Sarah Scanlon scored the third goal and Aisling O’Connell scored a point to finish the scoring.

Squad is as follows, Robyn White, Kerry Hennessy, Rachel Griffin, Shonagh Griffin, Naomi O’Sullivan, Grainne Galvin, Caoimhe Carroll, Sarah Scanlon, Emily O’Brien, Una Kerins, Ciara Kerins, Keelin Enright, Aisling O’Connell, Ella Quirke, Roisin Rahilly, Kate O’Connor, Rachel Creedon, Eve Creedon, Deborah O’Connor, Orla O’Connor, Kate Collins, Hazel McCarthy.

Missing or injured. Emer Curran, Lisa Curran, Roisin Long, Cora Savage, Emma Sweeney, Deirdre Millane, Veronica Heaslip, Aoibhinn Broderick, Emma Daly, Millie Luck, Niamh Rahilly, Sinead McKeown.

We now move onto Round 3, at home next Sunday 12 noon versus Fossa, who also have two wins from two.

Randle Bros Junior B County Championship   Round 3

Ballymacelligott v Fossa

On a blustery high noon, two sides shorn of a number players lined out in this top of the table clash. It was a very Ballymac side, playing into a very strong wind, that raced into the lead from the very start, putting away 3-3 in the first ten minutes to just 0-1 to Fossa. The rest of the half was fairly even steven, as Ballymac scored another 1-2 and a very gallant Fossa scored 0-3, to leave the halftime score at 4-5 to 0-4.

Fossa started the second half strongly with an opening salvo of 1-1, however Aishling O’Connell eased Ballymac back into the game with a delightful run and a lovely point to finish. With that Ballymac notched up another 1-4 without reply, to leave the score at the end of the third quarter 5-9 to 1-5.

The last quarter saw Fossa come back strongly to score another 1-2 to an 0-1 for Ballymac. These sides could meet again in the later stages and it will be a different story when both are back to full strength. However, on this early afternoon it was Ballymac who took the spoils 5-10 to 2-7.

Squad was as follows, Kerry Hennessy, Caoimhe Carroll, Grainne Galvin, Niamh Rahilly, Sarah Scanlon, Una Kerins, Ciara Kerins, Emily O’Brien, Aishling O’Connell, Keelin Enright, Roisin Rahilly, Kate Collins, Kate O’Connor, Ella Quirke, Veronica Heaslip, Laura Kelly, Laura Sugrue, Emma Daly and Deborah O’Connor.

We now move onto our Round 4 game v Currow away next Sunday.

U17 Ladies County Championship   Semi Final Division A

Cromane v Ballymacelligott

On Thursday evening we took the trip to Cromane and came away winners from a very intense game.

It was a game of two halves, where our defence marshalled superbly by Anna Collins and Rachel Griffin, with the great assistance of Ciara Kerins, Alice Brosnan, Clodagh Coffey and especially goalkeeper Kerry Hennessy, played superbly keeping the Cromane score at only four points and while our attacking play was poor, we had scored six points in the first half, with Laura Sugrue knocking over 3 and Roisin Rahilly, Jill Quirke and Sarah Scanlon moved to Centre Forward all putting over vital points. Huge work was put in by our forwards, with Ella Quirke, Rachel Creedon and Aoibhinn Broderick combining well and working really hard in closing down the Cromane goal kicks

The second half, with Kate Collins in at corner forward (2-3 in the second half), and Jamie Lee O’Connor in at half back, was the opposite where we hit Cromane with 1-4 to no score within the first ten minutes. However, with ten of our players involved with the Senior Ladies last Monday night, we tired and conceded 1-2 in the next ten minutes. An injury stoppage allowed us to regroup, introduced Emma Daly and for the final ten minutes we scored 1-3 to Cromane’s 1 goal.

We now move on to the County Final, provisionally next Thursday 8th September. More than likely our opponents will be our nemesis Southern Gaels.

Squad is as follows,

Kerry Hennessy, Ciara Kerins (C), Anna Collins, Alice Savage, Clodagh Coffey, Rachel Griffin, Sarah Scanlon (0-1), Roisin Rahilly (0-3, 0-2 frees), Keelin Enright (0-1), Rachel Creedon, Kate Collins (2-3), Ella Quirke, Jill Quirke (0-1), Laura Sugrue (0-4), Aoibhinn Broderick, Jamie Lee O’Connor, Emma Daly, Laura Kelly, Sarah O’Rourke, Debra O’Connor, Orla O’Connor.

U13’s Ladies County Championship Final Division D

Ballymacelligott v MKL Gaels.

On Sunday afternoon in John Mitchels, we faced MKL Gaels B. Our girls faced the big wind in the first half and trailed by 1-3 to 2-5. Things looked ominous for us 5 minutes into the second half as we went 9 points down. The what a ferocious fight back to win by 4-7 to 3-7.

Congratulations to our U13 Ladies County Champions 2022.

U15 County Divisional County Championship Round 1

St. Kierans v North Kerry

On Friday night we had 5 ladies involved in the St. Kieran’s side Anna Collins, Jamie Lee O’Connor, Jill Quirke, Maire Culloty and Sarah O’Rourke, with John O’Rourke involved in the management team. However, fortune did not favour us and we lost out by 5 points.

Academy

U5 report:

The earlier start for this week’s Academy did not deter our U5’s (or their parents) as we had really great numbers for Sunday’s training session. Huge fun was had with our children led warm-up, pick-up and hand passing drills and fundamental movement games. It’s wonderful to see the young players starting to gain confidence on and off the ball, especially during our increasingly competitive mini-matches. Looking forward to seeing you all next week!

U8 & U10 Girls

The U10 & U8 girls turned out in numbers on Sunday for the academy. Ahead of games against Na Gaeil & Austin Stacks in the coming weeks the focus has been on tackling and positioning.

Everyone is looking forward to some friendly competitive games.

U9 Boys

Our u 9 Boys played Kerins o Rahilly’s in the Go Games this morning at the Training pitch in Ballymac.

We had 3 Teams of 7 players and all the Boys really enjoyed themselves.

Great progress has been made over the last number of weeks and credit to all players for making such an effort every Sunday morning at Training and Games.

We hope to organise some more games over the next few weeks.

Thanks to all parents who supported us today and thanks to Kerins o Rahilly’s who travelled to Ballymac and gave us 3 fine sporting games.

U11 Ballymac Boys

Our team of 15 boys travelled to Miltown/Castlemaine on Sunday morning for the Paddy Burke memorial blitz. The boys played 20-minute 11 a-side games against Listry, Dr Crokes and Austin Stacks in the group stage. Next up was a semi-final in the shield against the host team Miltown/Castlemaine.  The boys put on a magnificent display and succeeded in reaching their first final of many, against Churchill.

The boys led the entire game until at the last minute when the opposition nicked it from under their feet. They can hold their heads up high. It was a really superb team performance. Thanks to parents and supporters. Thanks to Miltown/Castlemaine for a great day out.

U13 Boys

Our Boys U13 blue team travelled westward to an Gaeltacht this afternoon for the Central district Div 2 semi-final. Despite putting in a great effort for the full 50 minutes the home side once again proved too strong for our lads. Final score 2.10 to 0.05

U 15 District Team

Castleisland District under 15 boys came out the wrong side by the narrowest of margins in an excellent game of football played in Austin Stacks Park on Wednesday night last. A free converted by Tralee District in added time, in added time, was just enough to get them over the line on a score line of 1-16 to 1-15.

A draw would have been a fitting result on the night. An absorbing contest played in great spirit at the very highest level. Our boys contributed in no small measure throughout. Commiserations to all involved.
