The Credit Union SFL Div 1 Round 3

Rathmore 2-08

Ballymacelligott 1-06

Venue: Rathmore  Date: 7th April 24

Two gifted goals to the opposition and too many wides cost Ballymacelligott the game played in Rathmore on Sunday.

The game opened with a point from Rathmore. Shortly after Cian Counihan gave an accurate pass to Donal Daly who scored a goal.  Ballymac failed to capitalise on this momentum and Rathmore scored the next two points. Vinnie Horan scored a point from a free which was the fifth score of the game.

The next Ballymac score was another point from a free from The Ballymac Captain in the 20th minute of the game.  In between Rathmore scored two goals and a point.  Rathmore were in the lead by double scores after 21 minutes of play. Rathmore added another point.

Two great saves by the Rathmore goalkeeper in the 23rd and 32nd minute of the half left Ballymacelligott with a lot of work to do in the second half.

Half Time Score: Rathmore 2-05 Ballymacelligott 1-2

Rathmore opened the scoring in the second half with a point. Vinnie Horan scored a point in the 6th minute. The next score- a point- came from Rathmore halfway through the half. Aidan Breen scored a point from a free.

Rathmore scored another point and a great save from their goalkeeper left the score 2-08 to 1-04 with 8 minutes left. Aidan Breen (F)  and Vinnie Horan for Ballymac scored the last two points of the game.

This was a hard game with some tough tackling. Rathmore were shown 7 yellow cards and Ballymac 3. Daire Keane, Cathal Dunne, Vinnie Horan, and Tadhg Brick were outstanding for the Ballymac team. They will rue those ten wides (Rathmore 4).

Then it has not been an easy season for our players with our home pitch closed. Training has been sporadic and very little ball played. To their credit, they battle on.
The next game is in two weeks V Spa Killarney.

The Credit Union SFL Div 6A  Round 3

Ballymacelligott 1-4

Dr Crokes 6-11

Venue: Dr Crokes Date: 5th April  24

Ballymac GAA wishes to thank Dr Crokes for facilitating our home game on Friday evening.

This was a tough game in tough weather conditions on Friday night. It has already been a tough season for our players who have had no pitch to play on and have trained in various places with very little ball work since the start of the season.

There is great credit due to all the players who turn up for training week in and week out and also turn up for games at the weekend.

Ballymac started well with three great attacks. Two wides followed by a point from  Darragh Regan opened the scoring for Ballymac. Dr Crokes notched up two points but for a great save by Conor Martin in goal -things could have been worse.

After fifteen minutes of play, the score was Dr Crokes 0-4 to Ballymac 0-1. Dr Crokes dominated after scoring a goal in the eighteenth minute and adding two more goals and a point before Ballymac reduced the margin with points from Michael Herlihy, Shane McGillicuddy, and Skye Lynch.

The Half Time score was: Ballymacelligott 0-4   Dr Crokes 3-07

Darragh Regan scored Ballymac’s only goal, and Dr Crokes went on to win the game to add two points to their County League tally of four.

Full-Time score was: Ballymacelligott 1-4 Dr Crokes 6-11

The margin of defeat exceeded the expectation based on the previous form of these two teams.

Coming into this game, the only yardstick we had to gauge how this game would go, was that both teams had played Spa in earlier rounds. Spa defeated Ballymac by a point and Dr Crokes won their game by three points.

Our players battled hard, blocked well, and overall played well.
We wish James Kenny a speedy recovery from his injury in the first half of the game.

Team and scorers: Conor Martin, Ciarán Brosnan, Jonathan Brick, Eoin Culloty, Cathal White, Andy Rogers, Jamie Burke, Skye Lynch (0-1) Brian Cassidy, Maurice O’Connell, Michael Herlihy (0-1), Darragh Regan (1-1), Barry Lyons (Capt), Shane McGillicuddy (0-1), and Micheál Savage

Subs Used: Cathal Culloty, Eoghan Leahy, Conor Brick, Brian Godley and James Kenny.
