The Credit Union SFL Div 6 Shield   Kilcummin V Ballymacelligott
Kilcummin 2-16 Ballymacelligott 1-10
Venue: Kilcummin Date: 21st June 2024

The last game of the County League for the senior B team was away to Kilcummin on Friday night last. There were a few changes to the Ballymac usual line out the most notable being Gene O’Keeffe donning the number 1 jersey, repeating his first-ever appearance for Ballymac when he was 14 and played in goal!

Our former senior selector, Tom Shea, was managing the Kilcummin Senior B team, so it was a night of history-makers all around.

With fifteen minutes on the clock, Ballymac trailed 0-1 to Kilcummin 0-6. Eoin Culloty got a goal for Ballymac with 20 minutes gone. However, Kilcummin dominated all over the pitch and added another seven points before halftime.  Darragh Regan scored two points and a point each from Conor Brick, and Josh O’Keeffe summed up the scores for Ballymac before halftime.

Half Time score: Kilcummin 0-13 Ballymacelligott 1-04

Kilcummin scored two goals early in the second half, creating a challenging situation for the Ballymac team. However, displaying their unwavering resilience and determination, the Ballymac lads never gave up.  They managed to score six points in this half, with four from Conor Brick (2 Frees) and one each from Shane McGillicuddy and Daragh Regan.

Full-Time score: Kilcummin 2-16 Ballymacelligott 1-10

Speaking after the game, Barry Lyons, captain of the Senior B team, said that the campaign started on a drizzly Sunday morning in Spa and concluded at dusk in Kilcummin. In between, the team did very well in their first season playing in the senior County league. Barry said he was proud that the lads fielded a team for every game and gave their all in the eleven games. The Captain said it was great to see the return of players like Jonathan Brick, Eoghan Leahy, Jack Tobin, and others who had not played for some time.

He is pleased with the five wins and one draw from the eleven games. He said his notable results were beating League leaders Beaufort away from home and rescuing a draw from Milltown at the death.

The scintillating attacking performance against Keel was also a great memory from the year. Barry thanked all the players and Management team of Jer Lynch, Martin Lowe and Jack Culloty.

He said it was also important to remember the former management of the B sides over the years who got us to the point of fielding a Senior B Team in the Senior County League for the first time in 2024. Barry said both he and all the players were looking forward to the championship and to the Tralee District competition later in the year.
