Congratulations to the Kerry U14 squad which included Ballymac’s Ashling O Connell on their victory over Cork in the Munster Championship last weekend.

BASKETBALL COMMUNITY GAMES

Our U11 mixed Basketball team took part in the Kerry Community Games finals on Sunday last.  In the morning session in Duagh we were victorious in all our games against Rock St Caherslee, Ballydonoghue/Lisselton, Duagh/Lyre and St. Brendans Oakpark.

These victories qualified us for a semi final against Currow Currans in Castleisland in the afternoon where we played some superb basketball to qualify for the final against Castleisland.  Although the final was a low scoring affair spectators were kept on the edge of their seats throughout due to the closeness of the game.  With just 20 seconds remaining Castleisland led 7 – 5.

Our team attacked seeking an equaliser however, luck was not on our side and the homeside extended their lead on the break with seconds remaining.  While our boys and girls were disappointed they can hold their heads high as they did themselves and their Parish proud on the day.  Great credit must be given to coaches Mike Broderick and David Long and Community games co-ordinator Sheila O Rahilly for their time devoted to coaching and organising the team.

Panel: Aoibhinn Broderick, Orla O Connor, Ciara Palmer, Ellie Quirke, Roisin Rahilly, Evan Boyle, Niall Collins, Tom Long, David Lucid, Micheal Savage.

CENSUS

The 2016 Census of Population will be held on Sunday April 24.  Over the coming weeks your Census Form will be personally delivered to your home and every person in Ireland, including visitors, on that night is obliged to complete it.  All Census Enumerators carry ID.  When you fill in your census form on this night, you’re giving information that will help to understand what Ireland needs for the future.

The importance of the census is that it accounts for everybody in the country, including visitors, no matter where they are. The results provide invaluable information on not only population size for the country as a whole, but also about the make-up of the population of towns, villages, and other small areas across the country. Further details can be had on census.ie
