BANNA Coastcare is organising their first marram grass planting event this Sunday morning between 10.30am and 12 noon.

They are inviting people to join them in helping to plant the grass. Volunteers are asked to meet in the main car-park in Banna at 10.30am, to leave at 10.40am to walk short distance to planting site. Please bring your own durable gloves.

“Our sand dunes play a vital role in coastal protection and provide an important habitat for plants and wildlife,” said Rachel Geary of Banna Coastcare.

“Much of the sand dune system at Banna has become exposed and fragile over the years.
We are calling on volunteers to carry our critical conservation work on Banna, one of Ireland’s first Natura 2000 sites and one of Kerry’s finest Blue Flag beaches,” she said.
