JACKIE Crowe, who went on TV last year to highlight how economic conditions are affecting Ireland’s healthcare system, has died.
The Ballyheigue lady passed away last night at the age of 51. She appeared on a TV3 documentary in May, 2014 where she described her battle against a rare form of cancer, Neuroendocrine tumors (NETs) and the financial difficulties she found herself in after losing her job before her diagnosis.
She wanted to highlight the dangers of falling into arrears on life assurance policies and the lack of proper cancer care facilities in hospitals due to Govt cutbacks.
Ms Crowe also appeared on the TV3 Vincent Browne People’s Debate from Killarney just a few weeks ago, where she again denounced the Government and highlighted how the oncology department at Kerry General Hospital needed investment to provide better care for patients.
Social media has been flooded with tributes to the campaigner (see a few below).
The funeral arrangements are removal from Gleasure Funeral Home on Wednesday at 4.15pm-6.15pm.
Mass in St Mary’s church in Ballyheigue at 12 noon Thursday. Private cremation will follow on Friday.
