A LOCAL butcher’s running exploits have helped out a local organisation.

Matt Leahy of Matt The Butcher on Abbeycourt has been an avid runner for the past number of years.

He decided to use his hobby to raise some funds for the Inspired group by taking part a marathon recently and collecting money for the group.

Inspired is a community project, based in Friary Lane, started up in 2014 to empower adults with learning disabilities and give them chances to integrate with the community, find employment, and extend their educational development.

Matt knows one of the members of the group, David Malone and his mother Fran, so he wanted to do something to help them because of the great work that goes on at the centre.

Fran Malone thanked Matt for his generosity – on behalf of the Inspired group – at the presentation of a cheque outside his shop on Tuesday morning.
