PLANS for the new plaza area at the bus and railway station in Tralee will reach the planning stage by the end of the first quarter of 2024.

At the meeting of the Tralee Municipal District of Kerry County Council on Monday, Cllr Cathal Foley asked what has been done to advance proposed works at Casement Station, first mooted back in April 2021.

He was told by Council management that the proposed plaza area to the front of Casement Station will involve a landmark re-invention of the space on the southern aspect of the Tralee Casement Train Station which will revitalise the Train and Bus Station and its environs.

Kerry County Council has identified an opportunity to transform the train station foreground with the creation of a new high- quality plaza.

The proposed redeveloped area will create a sustainable transport hub and a serviced termination/start point for the Tralee Fenit Greenway linking to the numerous proposed and existing safe cycling and walking routes throughout the Town.

Several ‘on-site’ meetings have taken place between Kerry County Council and representative of Irish Rail to advance the Casement Station Plaza re- design as a part of Tralee’s URDF proposal.

Working in partnership with Irish Rail, a design team will be appointed to advance the design to planning stage before end of Q1 2024.
