CBS Primary Awarded School Of Sanctuary Champion Status

CBS Primary School in Tralee has been awarded School of Sanctuary Champion Status after a visit from a monitoring team on Wednesday.

A School of Sanctuary is a school that is committed to creating a safe, welcoming and inclusive environment that benefits everybody, especially families seeking sanctuary.

It is a school that helps its students, staff, parents, and the wider community to understand what it means to be a refugee and to extend a welcome to everyone regardless of their immigration status.

Currently, there are 25 schools in Ireland with School of Sanctuary Champion Status, However, CBS Primary Tralee are the first school in Kerry to receive this prestigious recognition.

CBS Primary welcomed the monitoring team to the school on Wednesday who observed different activities in the school.  At the end of the visit the team met and decided to award CBS Primary Tralee Champion Status.

CBS Primary Tralee is unique as they currently have 52 different nationalities in the school.

The school has a tradition of welcoming all children but especially refugees, migrants, marginalised ethic minorities and other vulnerable groups. In CBS Primary, the school models and celebrates diversity and difference, striving to ensure that every child or young person respects the identities, cultures and values of others.
