A LOCAL councillor has asked An Garda Síochána to introduce speed monitoring at a busy road on the outskirts of Tralee.

At the meeting of the Joint Policing Committee on Tuesday morning, Fianna Fáil Cllr Mikey Sheehy asked the Gardaí to commit to further speed monitoring on the stretch of road at Beenoskee/Ballyard/Cloghers. He said serious speeding and safety concerns have been raised by residents in the area.

In response, An Garda Síochána said they had received a number of complaints recently in respect of Road Traffic issues including speeding at these locations in the past few months and a number of speed checks have been carried out.

This intervention has been acknowledged by a local resident. Insp Carroll RPU is in the process of sending an application to the Garda National Roads Policing Bureau to consider if these locations are suitable for inclusion a GoSafe speed camera zone.

Gardaí say they will continue to carry out covert and overt speed checks at Beenoskee / Ballyard / Cloghers area and will liaise with KCC in respect of possible traffic calming measures that could be implemented at these locations at the proposed quarterly meetings between both organisations.

  1. While you’re at it. Look in to reducing the speed limit in the Kerries and Clogherbrien areas.
