A LOCAL business handed over a cheque for €520 to a charity on Monday after holding a very different Black Friday sale.

Colm Griffin of Purchase.ie, the online store based in the Spa, Tralee decided to give 10% of their takings from Black Friday right through to Cyber Monday to Pieta House.

“Colm felt that Pieta House would be a good fit as 2020 has been a difficult year on the mental health of us all,” said Con O’Connor of Pieta House, who thanked Colm and all who supported this initiative especially this year.

“Orders flew in over the 4 day period and after counting up the takings I was delighted to see that €520 would go to Pieta and it provided valuable free Counsilling sessions to those who needed it right now,” said Colm.

Through its 19 centres across Ireland, Pieta House offer a free counselling service to those with severe mental illness. Since March when the pandemic first stroke, they have answered over 18,000 calls relating to suicide, self-harm and suicide bereavement and it continues to be busy but importantly people are calling Pieta .

“Purchase.ie were 11 years in business in November and during the month we had more visitors to our website and more online transactions through our website than ever before so it was nice to do something positive for such a worthy cause,” added Colm, who said if business continues to be as brisk as it has been lately, he hopes they might be in a position to create a job or two in 2021.
