Five Kerry Groups To Share €263,155 In Funding

IT was announced today that €263,155 will be made available to five local groups for mobility and cancer care transport services throughout Kerry.

Kerry received the highest amount in funding out of the €1.3 million available nationally.

The funding is provided under the Mobility and Cancer Care Transport Measure of the CLÁR programme.

In total five Kerry voluntary organisations, that provide free of charge transport, have been awarded substantial sums under the scheme.

They are:

• Ballyheigue Social Economy Enterprises CLG received a vehicle worth €31,050.

• Killarney Community received a vehicle worth €65,565.

• Castleisland Day Care received a vehicle with conversion worth €71,540.

• Castlemaine Community Services received a vehicle worth €50,000.

• West Kerry Care of the Aged received a vehicle worth €45,000.

In total 25 voluntary organisations from 12 counties were awarded vehicles under the programme.

The money will provide specialised vehicles which will be used to provide essential transport services for people with mobility issues across Kerry.

Welcoming the news, Kerry Fianna Fáil TD and Minister for Education Norma Foley said: “I am delighted that a number of vital Kerry groups and organisation are being supported by The CLÁR programme.

“At a time when the spirit of community has never been more valuable, this funding will help to improve the quality of life for those coping with medical and mobility issues across Kerry.”

“Those that qualified for the scheme provide transport to and from day care, medical therapy and respite services and/or transport to cancer treatment hospitals and centres under the National cancer Care programme.”
