A LOCAL woman is continuing to raise funds for Kerry Hospice through running events with a 10 Miler and 5k Road Race next February.
Michelle Greaney will organise the event for the fourth time, but this year it will hold a special significance since her father Michael had spent time at the Palliative Care Unit before he passed away in August.
“In February, the event was in its third year raising money for the Palliative Care Unit and little did we ever think our own dad would be spending over seven weeks there a few short months later after an unwelcome and shocking hit to his health,” said Michelle.

“My family and I are more than grateful for the Palliative Care team stepping in when they did and the compassionate comfort care provided to our dad and the quality time we were allowed with him as he approached his end of life. There support system is amazing for families dealing with this.”
“We were always kept informed about his condition and what to expect. We were given a chance to share our feelings, talk about what was happening and what was needed.”
“The Hospice enhances the person’s quality of life assuring all their care needs are addressed focusing on symptom control, pain and stress. By signing up for this event, you are supporting the amazing work the Kerry Hospice Foundation do which supports the gold standard specialist Palliative Care Services in Kerry,” said Michelle.
Taking place on Saturday, February 11,The Tralee 10 miler in aid of The Kerry Hospice and Palliative Care Unit in Tralee will bring together the ideal combination of club athletes and recreational runners over a relatively flat fast course taking in the outskirts of Tralee.
