A LOCAL GAA club is asking residents in estates surrounding their pitches to be vigilant and contact gardaí if they see any anti-social behaviour on their grounds.

The request comes after damage was caused to the goalposts in their juvenile pitches at Ballyrickard on Tuesday night.

In a recent facebook post, the club said this has been a continuous problem at both their Ballyrickard and Strand Road pitches since lockdown began in March.

“Absolutely ridiculous behaviour by the idiots who broke the two juvenile goalposts at our Ballyrickard pitch during last night [Tuesday],” read the post.

“Our club grounds at Ballyrickard and at Strand Road have been continuously targeted for anti social behaviour by mindless youths (not club members) since lockdown last Spring. The hassle and cost to our club in organising repairs to the goalposts before weekend games is something we could do without especially given the platform that we and other sports clubs in our area are providing for youths with the intention of keeping them on the straight and narrow. We will be taking a hardline stance from now on against any persons found on our property who are up to no good and these will be liable to prosecution.”

The club is asking all residents in estates surrounding their pitches to call the gardaí on 066-7102300, should they notice any youths entering or loitering on our grounds day or night.
