Heritage Open Day To Take Place At Churchill Forge

Looking forward to Heritage Day at Churchill Forge are Michelle Burke, Niall Hickey, John Foley, Brendan Brosnan, Peggy Daly, Colette O’Sullivan and Dermot Crowley.

THE Spa/Fenit community will be out in force on Sunday, August 20 when they will celebrate Heritage week at Churchill Forge Heritage Centre.

Organised by the Spa/Fenit Community Council, the day will start with a Classic Vintage Car Run, departing the Forge in Churchill  at 1pm, travelling to Kerry head via Ardfert and Ballyheigue and  returning to the Churchill  Forge again for Heritage celebrations.

This has become a very popular meet up for car enthusiasts, attending from all over the county. The annual Dog show is a great attraction, always well attended and you are sure to see an array of impeccably groomed pets paraded by their owners.

Join resident Blacksmith at Churchill Forge and step back in time and learn the history and practices of life at the Forge.

Up to the middle of the 20th century, communities in rural Ireland were largely self sufficient and the Blacksmith not only shod horses, he made and repaired everything needed on the farm.

Displays of traditional skills of bygone times such as butter-making, sugán chair assembly, morse code  and thatching, skills which have been passed from one generation to next.

Entertainment will include traditional music, song, storytelling and dance which will again showcase the amazing talent in our community.

All are invited to celebrate our heritage and enjoy a wonderful day of family entertainment for free. Our museum is open every day and John our tour guide will be delighted to give you a free tour.
