THE Institute of Technology Tralee has today announced details of a number of free online workshops commencing on Tuesday 2nd of June and running over three weeks to Thursday 18th of June.

The workshops will cover topics such as Sustainable Food Production, Food Allergens & Food Related Diseases, Culinary Operations Planning, Factors Contributing to Success, Food and Beverage Cost Calculations and One on One Career Advice.

Expert lecturers TJ O’Connor, Maurice O’Brien, Dan Browne and Bryan O’Sullivan will deliver live to participants at home, online, through the Institute’s Blackboard Ultra Collaborate system meaning real time interaction and learning can be facilitated.

On announcing the workshops Senior Lecturer in the Hotel, Culinary Arts and Tourism Department TJ O’Connor said; “Kerry has a large number of its workforce employed within the hospitality and tourism sector, which has been significantly affected as a result of the COVID19 pandemic with many staff being made temporarily unemployed. While this is a difficult time, it could also present an opportunity to those workers to reskill, upskill and consider their future career plan. We are offering these workshops as a way to meet that need.”

Head of School of Business, Computing and Humanities Mary Rose Stafford said; “As the only higher education provider in Kerry we are uniquely placed to react to changes in the employment market. Many of those hospitality workers who have found themselves out of work as a result of the current pandemic may not have engaged with formal education for some time and may find the idea of returning to education daunting. These workshops are ideal for those looking to take the next step in their career. While we are currently experiencing difficulty in the hospitality sector, there will be a need for skilled workers in the sector as Kerry and Ireland reopens for business.

The series of workshops will conclude with the opportunity for participants to receive one to one advice on career and education opportunities in the hospitality sector. These one to one to sessions will be facilitated by Mary Rose Stafford and TJ O’Connor.
