U-12 LADIES

The girls were busy last weekend when they played Kerins O Rahillys in Ballyricard in the semi final of the town league on Friday evening & Austin Stacks in the A final in Connolly Park on Sunday evening. There has been very little between ourselves & Kerins O Rahillys in the previous 2 games this year & the semi-final proved to be more of the same with us coming out with a 2 point win after a frantic few final minutes where it was all hands to the pump to keep them out.

As we had never won the A final before we were going in as underdogs but the one thing that this group of girls don’t do is to give up easily & they needed to be at their best to come through this test. In a fiercely competitive local derby the teams were level at half-time, our girls stepped up the pace in the early stages of the second half to go ahead only to be pegged back again but goals win games & we got 3 from Rachel Kilgallen & Ruth Moriarty as opposed to their 2 which proved vital in the end.

The final few minutes were heart stopping for the very large attendance present and as the play swung from side to side with some fantastic football from both sides which was a pleasure to watch. When the final whistle sounded John Mitchels were crowned the 2014 U12 A Town League champions for the first time in our history on a score line of John Mitchels 3-06 to Austin Stacks 2-07 & in scenes of great celebrations the trophy was presented to our captain Ruth Moriarty.

The girls involved & who created their own piece of history last weekend were as follows; Mikayla Marshall, Melissa Dennehy, Nicole Heaphey, Erica O Connor, Rachel Hanafin, Clara Callaghan, Laura Fitzgerald, Julie Foley, Semi Ogunbsa, Ruth Moriarty, Sinead O Donnell, Rachel Kilgallen, Molly Brosnan, Kerry Oba, Amy Sommers, Caoimhe Leahy, Ailbhe Ryle, Katie Ross, Lea Jones, Lynda O Connor, Ornau Costello, Muireann White, Holly Ornopp, Amee Kerins,Jennifer Lynch,Elisabeth Zarnane, Lauren Smullen.

The results in the North Kerry league have gone our way we were also crowned the North Kerry Division 2 champions for the first time in our history last weekend so in a double celebration the trophy was presented to our captain Rachel Kilgallen after the match. These groups of girls have proved that hard work pays off & they are a credit to their families & to John Mitchels GAA Club.
Congratulations to Rachel Kilgallen & Ruth Moriarty who represented Kerry in the Michael Cullinan U12 tournament in Clare last weekend.
