UNDER 8 BOYS

John Mitchel’s U8 Boy’s had a great turn out this Sunday for training!! As always the session started with a good warm up & then we practiced skills & then straight into games.

Next week John Mitchel’s U8 Boy’s host Kerins o Rahilly’s for some challenge games, all U8 players to meet in John Mitchel’s at 10.45am Games start 11.00am sharp & should finish at 11.45am Full Attendance Required.

UNDER 10 BOYS

Our u10 boys had a good turnout at training last Sunday morning on the juvenile pitch. It’s fair to say that the underfoot conditions were heavy & it was a different experience to the astro pitch for the past few weeks. After some hand passing & kicking drills the lads finished off with a game to polish up on their skills for the upcoming games which start next weekend. First up is Kerins O Rahilly’s in their Ballyricard pitch next Sunday morning September 6th, meet up at 10.45am for 11am throw in. Just to note that to comply with the covid restrictions our u8s are at home in Ballyseedy at the same time to Kerins O Rahilly’s & we’ll swap around the following Sunday. We hope to see a full turnout in Ballyricard at 10.45 am.

UNDER 8 & 10 GIRLS

Another fantastic Sunday morning of training at John Mitchel’s complex in Ballyseedy saw the u8 and u10 girls turn up for training in the brilliant sunshine, ready for a tough workout.

The intensity of the training sessions delighted coaches Caroline and Padraig, as the girls went through some high-speed passing and kicking drills, aimed at upping the pace at which the girls do their ball-work.

To the fore in the drills were Aisling, Ava, Millie and Hannah, who showed the benefits of working on their skills at home, with some good handling of the ball and crisp, fast passing, using team-mates to get around defensive players.

The second half of the session saw the girls using a larger pitch, which necessitated more running, but was also aimed at improving their long-range kicking and asking. Again the coaches were impressed with the defensive work by the players, but also how they used the skills from the earlier drills to advance into scoring positions. Leila, Roisin, Clodagh and Aideen were very strong defensively, while in attack Maddison, Aeibhin and Hannah kicked some lovely scores.

Training continues next Sunday at Ballyseedy at 10.30am. All welcome.

UNDER 12 BOYS

Our Green and Gold Teams travelled to Rathmore this evening in Round 3 of Phase 2 of the County League.

The Gold team started well but the opening exchanges were tight against a determined Rathmore side. As seems to be the pattern with the Golds, our lads gradually took control, finding gaps in the oppositions defence and went in at half time with a healthy lead. The Golds were in total control in the second half, pegging on some lovely scores to run out comfortable winners in the end – 5-18 to 3-06. Still unbeaten and another great win for the Golds.

The Green team also had a good start, with some lovely point taking seeing us a few points clear at the water break. Two clinically taken goals in the 2nd quarter gave us a good lead at half time. As with all good teams, Rathmore came at us hard in the final two quarters but some great defending and goalkeeping kept our lead intact. We finished with a flourish in the final quarter with a few well taken breakaway goals. Final score – 5-14 to 1-09. Two wins from three now for the Greens and with two more games to come, still all to play for.

Well done to all our lads on another mighty weeks football. We face Dr Crokes next Sunday away at 6pm. Training continues Tuesday at 5.30 pm and Thursday at 5.45pm.

UNDER 14 BOYS

On Wednesday evening 26th August we played Tarbert in what can only be described as a very one sided affair with our boys losing out by a good few scores, in my opinion Tarbert should be in a much higher division than us but the lads left everything they had out on the field and didn’t give up until the final whistle and they kept the Mitchel’s pride intact. Training continues Monday evenings 6.30 – 8.00pm, full attendance required, please bring gum shields.
