Senior Ladies
Dingle 0-06   John Mitchels 0-10.

John Mitchels continued on their winning run with a hard fought but fully deserved 4-point win in Dingle on Monday evening.  John Mitchels won the toss and decided to play with the aid of the breeze in the opening half but it was the home side that settled the better and opened the scoring with a point in the fifth minute.

John Mitchels responded with points from Grace Hamilton and Ava Buckley and then Ava saw her goal bound shot just clear the crossbar to put the visitors 2 points in front.

Some staunch defending by Tanya O’Connor and a wonderful save by goalkeeper Kayleigh Collins helped maintain the lead and Emelia Brusnik extended John Mitchels lead with a well taken point in the 25th minute following some great approach work by Jamie Finnegan before the home side reduced the advantage to just 2 points on the stroke of half time.  Half Time Score Dingle 0-02 John Mitchels 0-04.

Facing into the breeze in the second half with only a 2-point advantage, John Mitchels defensereally stepped up with some solid defending by Eabha Mullen, Emma Lynch, Shannon Martin superbly marshalled by the impervious Ashleigh Murphy at center half back.

At this point the visitor’s midfield partnership of Aoife O’Brien and Simi Ogungsbesan began to get the upper hand on their midfield rivals which resulted in points from Emilia Brusnik and Grace Hamilton and two from Diana O Keeffe, one a delightfully judged free into the town end to push them into a six-point lead midway through the second half.

Dingle had their best spell of the game and reeled off 3 quickfire points to leave just a goal between them with ten minutes remaining.  John Mitchels didn’t panic, however, and following some good approach play by Sandra Marshall, Simi and Diana O Keeffe, Ava Buckley kicked a superb long-range point into the teeth of the breeze.

A couple of minutes later a great run by Grace Hamilton ended with Aoife O’Brien being fouled and up stepped Diana O’Keeffe to nonchalantly split the uprights and push John Mitchels into an unassailable 5-point lead.

Virtually on the call of full time, Dingle added their sixth and final point but it wasn’t enough to deny John Mitchels victory after a very entertaining game which was excellently handled by referee John Ross.

John Mitchels now look forward to their next game in the league a home encounter v Beale before they turn their attention back on the Donal Curtin Cup following a recent break from that competition.

Under 14 Girls

John Mitchels u14 Gold 2-03

Austin Stacks U14 B 1-03

Our U14 Gold girls team began their County League Division 8 campaign with a hard fought, but well deserved victory over Austin Stacks in a game that was played in ideal conditions on a perfect pitch at home in Ballyseedy on Sunday evening.

Stacks began the game very well and we found ourselves a goal behind after 2 minutes and the girls from the Rock added a point to make the deficit 4 points with 10 minutes gone.

The Mitchels girls showed great character and we quickly brought the contest to parity. Tara Dowling breaking through the stacks defense with an unstoppable finish and a fine point from Ella Dennehy left the score Austin Stacks 1-01 John Mitchels 1-01 after 25 minutes.

The visitors scored a point just before the short whistle and we went in at half time a point behind but extremely satisfied knowing that we would have the aid of a nice breeze in the second half.

We began the second half well and used the long ball and the breeze to our advantage. Our defense was outstanding , Anna Marie, Faye and Robin kept things tight inside and Natalia , Nicole and Katelyn were outstanding, keeping the Stacks girls under pressure and ensuring the supply of ball to our forwards was readily available.

The contest was extremely close and It looked as though it may end all square until a long ball played out of defense by Ally was expertly controlled by Ella Dennehy and she placed the ball high in to the back of the Stacks net.

Chloe added a fine point from a 30 meter free shortly afterwards and the girls were delighted when the whistle blew and the two points were in the bag. The girls were outstanding,

Ava and Tara gave us the foothold at midfield that we needed and Áine , Dionne , Kayla , Caoimhe L , Chloe , Ally and Ella who finished up with a fine 1-02 played with great courage.

It’s gave us great satisfaction also to see our U12 girls Maddison and Courtney come it to the game and perform so well.

A massive mention must go to Roisin Locke who played her first game in goals and gave a fine display of accurate kicking.

They followed that up with a home game on Sunday evening against St Pats.
The Green team also had an impressive victory over Ballyduff in their first round game, winning by 2-4 to 1-3. Their second game was on Monday night away to Legion.

Under 16 girls

The U16s girls played Round 4 of the County League away to Beaufort Wednesday evening. The girls had a tough start with plenty of defending to keep the scoring down. Was a tough Game with the score not going our way. The girls never gave up the fight with some fabulous movements of the ball to get our own well worked and deserved scores on the board.
