Senior Men Development League

The Development League final saw Mitchels play Kenmare on Friday 7th July at 7 pm away Fossa. Kenmare got the scoreboard ticking over and by the 18th minute Kenmare were on top with a score line of 04 to 01.

By half time Mitchels chipped away at the scoreboard and came back with another two points bring the score to 05 to 03 to Kenmare at half time. There was two goals in the second half with both teams taking a goal each.

Mitchels had some great points scored but it was not Mitchels day with a final score of 01-12 to 01-10 in favour of Kenmare. Well done to the team and management for reaching the final. Thanks to Fossa for hosting the game.

Senior ladies who faced Beale on Sunday afternoon and came out victors they now wait on fixtures for the Corrib oil club league.

Senior Ladies

Corrib Oil Senior Club League.

John Mitchels 4-11 Beale 0-06.

John Mitchels recent run of good form in the Corrib Oil Senior Club League continued on Sunday with a great win at home against Beale in what could best be described as very mixed weather conditions.

John Mitchels, despite playing into the wind settled well and 2 good points from Grace Hamilton had them in front after 5 minutes.

Beale opened their account two minutes later and were immediately denied a goal by a wonderful save from John Mitchels goalkeeper Kayleigh Collins and then a sweeping move from Clara O Dowd to Lucie O Donoghue onto Diana O Keeffe and finally to Grace Hamilton resulted in Grace sending a rocket of a shot to the Beale net to put the home team 4 points in front.

Beale reduced the advantage with 2 pointed frees before the home side clicked into gear with points from Diana O Keeffe, Ava Buckley and Shauna Flynn.  Beale added their 4th point of the half but just before half time a move involving Tanya O Connor, Julie Foley, Aoife O Brien and Lily Parker ended with Shauna Flynn blasting to the net to leave it 2-05 to 0-04 in favour of the home side at half-time.

With wind assistance in the second half and with Sarah Kilgallen, Simi Ogungsbesan and Ashleigh Murphy starting to dominate the middle sector of the field, John Mitchels began to take control of the game.

A point each from Simi and Diana and two from Grace increased the home sides lead 11 points by the tenth minute before Beale responded with a point.

Jamie Finnegan then got on the end of a great move involving Eabha Mullen, Ava Buckley and Lily Parker to end the game as a contest with an excellent goal and although Beale replied with another point, John Mitchels finished the game strongly with a goal from Ava and 2 points from Rachel Kilgallen to run out deserving winners against a very sporting Beale outfit who had fine performances from a number of their players.  The game was excellently handled by referee Mike Hennessy.

This win moves John Mitchels to the top of the Corrib Oil Senior Club League and shows the improvement the squad is making since the beginning of the year.

As an aside the club wish to clarify that the competition is not in fact the County League but is the Corrib Oil Senior Club League and we wish to apologise for any inconvenience caused to anyone in our earlier reports for any inaccuracy which we may have included.

We now await our next opposition in the Corrib Oil Senior Club league and look forward to that fixture and also to continuing our campaign in the Donal Curtin Cup.

U14 girls gold team who played last Sunday v St Pats last Sunday .

Under 14 Girls

The u14 gold team welcomed St Pat’s to the Mitchels for the County League, led by match captain Ella Dennehy. In goals Caoimhe Lennon did a sterling job which she was well supported by the back line which included Robyn Sheridan, Katelyn Laide & Faye Maloney. Tara Dowling , Natalia Henning  & Ava Byrne were outstanding in mid field.

St Pat’s kept the pressure on throughout the match but upfront Ella Dennehy leading by example finding points with Maddison O Meara.

The result didn’t go our way, but the girls should be very proud of their performance. Last Monday evening the green team travelled to Legion to play them in the County League division 6 3rd round game.

We started very slow in the first half and all girls put in a great effort but unfortunately things did not go our way with Legion dominating. The Mitchels girls regrouped at half time and in the second half put in a great performance led by our captain Ella McCannon, outscoring Legion 3-4 1-3 leaving the final score for 4-10 to 3-7.

All girls put in a huge effort in the second half after we regrouped and came back into the game.

Our midfielders Hannah Roche and Amy Noonan, our goalie Grace and our back line had a very solid second half performance led by Sadhb Corkery, and the half back line of Nicole and Natalia Henning with Ciara Harris and Ciara Falvey our main threats upfront.

Well done to all the U12 girls who came off the bench Our girls took defeat gracefully and we wish Legion the very best. Thanks to all parents who supported us in Killarney on Monday evening.

We advance to the semi-final stage and await fixtures

Friday evening saw the gold team away to Laune Rangers where we played with an under strength team on the night due to players on holiday and injuries but still battled hard and did the club proud with a superb effort on the night falling short by a couple of goals.
