Senior Men

Intermediate Championship.

Mitchels 2-14

Ballydonoghue 2-10

The last game of the championship saw us play a Ballydonoghue team with their Kerry star Jason Foley back to the fold.
The game was tempestuous at times with black cards a few yellows and two reds to boot but overall it didn’t disappoint as the crowd got a good game of football

Similar to last week we were wind assisted in the first half and by half time we were five points up with Steven Bowler getting the goal after a sloppy piece of defending from Ballydonoghue. Mikey Kelliher and Alan O Donoghue moving well and kicking some lovely scores, Cian Holden industrious as ever around the middle third and Shane Connor making some great runs to create scoring opportunities for our forwards.

The Ballydonoghue goal five minutes form half time was a sucker punch but we rallied to ensure a five point gap was maintained. 1-9 to 1-4 half time

Unlike last week the second half was at least more positive from a scoring perspective. The wind had picked up by this stage but that didn’t stop our gallops forward with quick ball and heads up football.

Ballydonoghue showed some grit and they clawed their way back and 9 minutes into the second half they also pounced on sloppy defending and netted to make it level and game on now! They then took the lead but two mins later we equalized.

Mikey Kelliher kicked a free for us to give us a one point advantage but short lived it was as the next attack saw the visitors level again.

Point of the game came from George Bastible chipping in with a sublime left footed point from the left side of the 14 yard line and with  the game in the melting pot, mitchels brought on super sub Conor Hurley who ran hard at the ballydonoghue defense and after collecting a hand pass from the mighty Shane O Connor, he buried a low ball to the net from the edge of the square to give us some breathing space. Alan Donoghue winning a free to give us a four point cushion to leave us safe again in the intermediate for 2024.

A disappointing campaign overall but we showed we still had some fight left in us and after promotion to Div. 2 this win gives us plenty to build on
Well done to the squad and Manager Brian and mentors Stevie, Buns and Dermot for a very positive result on the day.

Just a notable mention as Our u14 Girls green and gold teams and our u13 boys Green and Gold teams were honored at half time for winning Div. 1  and Div. 13 county titles with the girls picking up 6 and 7 honors respectively. well done to all here for a fantastic season

Senior Ladies

Our senior ladies opened their first county championship game today against a very strong Aunascaul/ Castlegrory team in difficult conditions in Ballyseedy. Both teams put in a huge effort in the first half with scores at a premium throughout , heavy rain and a strong wind took from the game but both teams battled hard, A somewhat controversial goal at a premium.

Point deflated our girls but we never dropped the heads and a few unfortunate injuries to key players didn’t help our cause and Aunascaul/Castlegregory ran out eventual winners. Well done to our girls they never gave up and battled to the final whistle. Unfortunately we had a few injuries and wish the girls a speedy recovery, next up we play Kerins O Rahillys in round 3

The mothers and others team who had a blitz in castleisland on Friday evening everyone enjoyed the evening for sport.
