MitchelsSENIOR TEAM:
Intermediate Championship:
We played Spa Killarney in Round 1 of the Championship last Sunday. It was a dry day and Spa played with the wind in the first half. Mitchels opened the scoring with a point from play from Sean Moloney.

Spa followed up with 4 points in succession, three from play and one from a free. James Duggan scored a point from a free followed by a point from play from Michael Deane leaving the first quarter John Mitchels 0-03 Spa 0-04.

Alan O’Donoghue scored a point from play to level matters. Spa followed up with two points, one from play and one from a free followed by a Niall Sheehy point from play which levelled matters at 6 points each.

Spa scored three points before half half leaving the half time score John Mitchels 0-05 Spa 0-09.

Spa started well in the 2nd half scoring three points in succession. Mitchels then rallied scoring a point from a James Duggan, followed by a goal from Niall Sheehy and a point from from Sean Moloney leaving the third quarter John Mitchels 1-07 Spa 0-12.

Niall Sheehy narrowed the difference to 1 point from play. Spa followed up with two points, one from play and one point from a free.

With two minutes remaining, Shane O’Connor broke through the Spa defence scoring a well taken goal and levelled matters John Mitchels 2-08 Spa 0-14.

The game looked as if it was heading to extra time when Spa scored a point from play in injury time and won the match with the minimum of margins. Final score John Mitchels 2-08 Spa 0-15.

MINORS:
Semi -Final minor county league John Mitchels 3-06 Churchill 3-09

Unfortunately we came out the wrong side of a tight physical battle last Friday evening with Churchill. Playing with the strong wind in the 1st half it took us a while to settle and Churchill kicked the opening scores.

We eventually settled and got right in the game with scores from Michael Kelleher and Gary Howard which left the half time score 2-04 each at half time.

From the throw in in the 2nd half we got a penalty from a fantastic drive from Jack Myres straight down the middle. Conor Hurley converted the penalty with confidence.

Having got the great start at the second half we conceded a sloppy goal not long after this which set up the remaining 20 mIns into a bruising physical battle.

Scores were hard to find for both teams with Churchill getting the extra few points to win the game. Every Mitchels player should be proud of their performance.

Hopefully we will have another chance to pick up some silverware next week when we are due to play Ardfert in the Brendans Final. Time and venue to be announced.

U14 LADIES:
They say “goals win games” and our Co League Round 3 game away to Finuge had them in abundance. Mitchels played with the wind in the first half and 2 goals from Ruth Katie and Rachel plus points from Kerry left us up at half time 4-4 to 4-2.

A very good second half by Finuge put them ahead and injury to Simi left us chasing the game. Julie worked tirelessly at midfield and Rachel and Ruth struck again to finish off our scoring leaving us 6-5 to 6-10.
Well done to all the girls who kept trying up to the final whistle.
Get well wishes to Erica for a fast recovery.
